Pope Francis Leaves Gemelli Hospital, Rome After Severe Anaesthetic Complications
In a dramatic turn of events, Pope Francis has been hospitalized and required extensive treatment after experiencing a sudden respiratory failure. This has raised plenty of questions such as what caused this unfortunate incident? What is the medical health of the Pope? And how does this affect the Roman Catholic Church and its followers globally.
The Health Crisis Begins
On the 22nd of February, 2025, Pope Francis suffered from an asthmatic breathless respiratory crisis which was quite severe and, as a result, required medical attention. Per the official statement issued by the Vatican, the 88-year old pontiff was experiencing an acute episode, which, after a couple of hours, got admitted in Gemelli hospital and resting for a week. While in the hospital, the Pope was treated for IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) and other symptoms like bi lateral pneumonia which was highly complex.
Medical Treatments and His Current Status
The health of the Pope has had quite a few ups and downs in the past few months due to constant monitoring being taken place. After a blood test, the Pope was diagnosed with Thrombocytopenia which, in short, is anemia. However, some good news is that spokespersons affiliated with the Vatican have confirmed that the pontiff does indeed remain coherent and is spending most of his days propped up in an armchair, even though he is more fatigued than usual.
